The "Golden Rose" town house is a cultural monument built on the slopes of Hradčany in the Prague heritage zone. The original building was destroyed in the great fire in Hradčany and Malá Strana in 1541; its replacement was built in Renaissance style in the middle of the 16th century. The most valuable space in the building is the vaulted hall, preserved in its original Renaissance form, on the ground floor; the hall was used in 1723 as a taproom, then in 1726 as a shop.
The building is situated in Malá Strana (originally the Lesser Town of Prague) in Thunovská Street at the Palace Stairs, which run from Hradčanské náměstí to the gates of Prague Castle. One of the oldest and most beautiful parts of the city, Malá Strana is a quarter in the centre of Prague on the left bank of the Vltava River.
The building is currently habitable; project documentation is being prepared for the total reconstruction of the house to enable its revitalization and full use while preserving the historically valuable parts.
